# Smarty 4 Documentation
|

|
|
Smarty is a template engine for PHP, facilitating the separation of presentation (HTML/CSS) from application logic.
|
||
|
|
|
||
|
|
It allows you to write **templates**, using **variables**, **modifiers**, **functions** and **comments**, like this:
|
||
|

|
